#PGSAS15!

Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Agricultural Sciences

This summer, I was a Mentor for the Governor's School for the Agricultural Sciences held at The Pennsylvania State University July 12th- Aug 15th, 2015.

Here are the "govies"

This 5 week program allowed 43 students from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to experience agriculture and environmental science at the collegiate level. Students took classes, completed labs and assignments, stayed on campus in dorms, and developed service learning projects among other things as part of this program.

Checking pH levels and other water quality factors at Lake Perez!

This amazing experience allowed me to work with incredibly smart, talented, mature, and inquisitive students. From dissecting cow udders to visiting Lake Perez at Stone Valley, we all experienced the diverse aspects of agriculture and environmental science. I definitely would highly recommend this program to any student interested in meeting new people and learning!

Learning more about forestry at the Ag Progress Days Site... and showing off their bananas after a suturing lab! What beautiful smiles!

I can't believe that the #PGSAS15 experience is over, but I am confident that the "govies" have left the program more confident about attending a college or university, and more comfortable with the idea of leaving home. For many, it was a long five weeks, but I truly think it went by pretty darn fast. I sure am going to miss our students, and feel so lucky to have had this experience of being a mentor for Governor's school.

Here's to hoping for some future Nittany Lions in the College of Agricultural Sciences! Kiddos... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you will join our ag family!

Best,
-Sarabeth
